I used to do a lot of work designing, building, and painting for theater. Here you can find some examples of projects that I worked on.

SCENIC DESIGN
Studio 39
I designed the scenery for Studio 39’s 2019 production of The Laramie Project. The show was designed with consideration for the budget and timeline of the program and was implemented almost entirely from stock goods.

SET DECORATION
Weston Playhouse
I designed, sourced, and built all of the set dressing, furniture, and props for Weston Playhouse’s 2018 production of Two Trains Running. Consumables for the show included 62 lbs. of baked beans, 72 corn muffins, and 7 pumpkin pies.
Show was completed with a $2000 budget.
The Jukebox for the show was sourced from a garage in Berkshire County MA and refurbished for the production. The cracked glass facade was replaced by heating and clamping plexiglass into shape.
I also rigged it to light up.
I built a large amount of the furniture for the show by myself, including this set of 50’s diner booths. This was my first professional upholstery project and I was able to pattern and attach the vinyl upholstery based off of research images.

SET DECORATION
Weston Playhouse
I designed, sourced, and built all of the set dressing, furniture, and props for Weston Playhouse’s 2018 production of Anne of Green Gabels. The show is a period piece set in the late 1800’s and required extensive research and travel to source the appropriate furniture.
Show was completed in 3 weeks with a $800 budget.
We were able to get our hands on the cast iron stove in this photo for $75 and a couple hours of sweat. Slight restoration and cleaning was necessary to get it stage ready.
FURNITURE FABRICATION
Pierced Back Chairs
I managed the fabrication and wrote CNC files for a set of 7 custom chairs for UNCSA’s 2017 production of Florencia en el Amazonas. The chairs were based on design drawings from the show’s Scenic Designer, Andrew Licout.

SET DECORATION
Chesapeake Shakespeare Company
I designed, sourced, and built all of the set dressing, furniture, and props for Chesapeake Shakespeare Company’s 2018 production of Two Trains Running in coordination with Alexander Rothschild. Challenges for this production included custom furniture builds to accommodate limited stage space, a tight budget for over 100 prop line items, and sourcing items for a hyper specific period piece.
Show was completed with a $1200 budget.
SCENIC DESIGN
4615 Theater
I designed and built the set for 4615 Theater’s 2019 production of The Infinite Tales. The show was built and painted with a budget of $800. Challenges on this project included finishing a floor for barefoot performers, building a 35’ curtain and track for under $150, and working to include shadow puppet surfaces in the scenic design.
This is a photoshop rendering that I generated in conversation with the director in order to communicate the scenic design for the show.
The director had several scenes where he wanted to use large scale shadow puppets. The solution we settled on was an 18’ tall by 40’ wide curtain that sewed together out of bedsheets in my living room.
FURNITURE FABRICATION
UNCSA
I engineered and built a custom sedan chair for UNCSA’s 2017 production of The Man of Mode. The chair was able to support an actor seated inside as it was carried by two other actors and features pattern matched interior upholstery.
Build was completed in 14 hours.
FURNITURE FABRICATION
Goodspeed Opera
I engineered and built a counter unit with interchangeable counter tops to serve as both a bar and a bakery counter. The unit had to support an actor dancing and jumping on top of it while also being light enough to be moved on and off stage by actors during the show. I also built a ride along bar for an arm chair in the show.
Build was completed in 2 weeks.
Here you can see the counter dressed for the bar location with a distressed wooden top.
Here you can see the bar dressed for the bakery location with a classic formica and chrome top.
This is the top of the body of the counter where the bar top and bakery top attached.
Here you can see the skeleton of the counter top engineering. The pegs here would slot into the holes in the above photo and be tightened with a stove bolt that lay flush to the underside of the counter once attached.
FURNITURE FABRICATION
UNCSA
I built a custom pool table for UNCSA’s 2016 production of Blackwatch. The table featured a removable top which was at first used to play pool on stage, then later was replaced with a dyed muslin false top from which an actor emerged. The table also featured integrated head lights and tail lights behind false panels that would appear once the top had been cut open so that the unit could play as an abstracted Humvee.
Build was completed in 4 weeks.
ASSISTANT SCENIC DESIGNER
UNCSA
I worked as an assistant scenic designer on UNCSA’s 2015 production of Guys and Dolls. In this role I worked on constructing the model for the show, building scale prototypes for show furniture, and as a scenic painter.
The scenic designer was Garret Daub, the scenic charge was Chirsty Kneisel.
ASSISTANT SCENIC DESIGNER
UNCSA
I was an assistant scenic designer on UNCSA’s 2014 production of Dying for It. I built model pieces and paint renderings.
ASSISTANT SCENIC DESIGNER
UNCSA
I was an assistant scenic designer on UNCSA’s 2015 production of Die Fledermaus. I built and painted model pieces, prepared files for the laser cutter, and operated the laser cutter to build model pieces.
The windows and doors on the model were hand cut, I generated the file for the laser etching on the stage portal and operated the laser cutter to produce the model piece.
